Thomas L. Monahan

Tempus Fugit Memento Mori

Requiescet in Pace

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas L. Monahan of Boston, Massachusetts, who passed away on June 6, 2020, leaving to mourn family and friends. Light a candle in honor of Thomas L. Monahan.

When the Knights of Columbus Immaculate Parish Council 13966 was formed in 2005, the then pastor, Fr Richard Mehm, asked Tom to assume the roll of Grand Knight. He served in that position for the first two years. At the same time, he invited more men to join the council than all the rest of the members combined. He continued to do so through all 15 years since the council was chartered. He also returned as Grand Knight for 2014-2017.

As his greatest contribution, Tom established the first Saturday Fatima Rosary Hour. Every month he lead 20 to 40 parishioners in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. A priest would begin and end with Benediction, hearing confessions in between. Tom served in this role for many years before illness made it no longer possible. The practice continues in his honor.

He was predeceased by : his parents, William J. Monahan and Grace A. Monahan (Kelly). He is survived by : his wife Catherine M. Monahan (Simeone) of Malden; his daughters, Maryann Monahan of Malden and Patricia Monahan of Malden; and his friend John Young of North Reading.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Thomas’ name to the Food For The Poor Inc., 6401 Lyons Road, PO Box 979002, Coconut Creek, FL 33097-9977.
